Surface Engineering of a Mg Electrode via a New Additive to Reduce Overpotential

In nonaqueous Mg batteries, inactive adsorbed species and the passivation layer formed from reactive with impurities in electrolyte seriously affect metal/electrolyte interface. These adlayers can impede passage of Mg2+ ions, leading to a high plating/stripping overpotential. Herein, we report properties new additive, bismuth triflate (Bi(OTf)3), for synthesizing chlorine-free enhance initial cycles. The beneficial effect Bi(OTf)3 be ascribed Bi/Mg3Bi2 situ on metal surface, which increases charge transfer during on-off transition by reducing adsorption surface enhancing resistance passivation. This simple method provides avenue improve compatibility between Cl-free anode.
